Holkham Bay – Wells – Norfolk
Naturism has been widely practised at Holkham Bay for many decades. In 1985 an area was designated for naturist use. In 2013 The Holkham Hall Estate removed that official designation and now asks that naturists refrain from using the dunes and nature reserve. Natural England, who manages the area below mean high water recognises that naturism is legitimate and allowed on entire foreshore below mean high water.
Location
Lady Anne’s Road Holkham, Wells-Next-The-Sea, NR23 1RG – A149
Opposite the entrance to Holkham Hall.
Park in Lady Anne’s car park (charges apply). Note there is VERY limited free parking in the area within several miles. Head to the beach through the car park and walk west (turn left) and go for about a mile. There is also an access path running alongside the beach which leads to, and through, the dunes to the beach.
Description
Wide sandy beach stretching for several miles from Wells-Next-The-Sea to Burnham Overy Staithe. The formerly designated area was in front of the dunes (to the West). A very popular beach but plenty of space for everyone.
